On the third Saturday of every May for almost 60 years, America has celebrated Armed Forces Day. Unfortunately many of us Americans have no clue the day even exists! My husband is an Iraqi war veteran and I am shamed to admit it… but I didn’t know even know it existed. This year we celebrate Armed Forces Day on May 15.
With a theme ‘Teamed for Defense’, Armed Forces Day was created to commemorate the unification of all branches of the military.
According to a New York Times article printed in 1952,
“This is the day on which we have the welcome opportunity to pay special tribute to the men and women of the Armed Forces … to all the individuals who are in the service of their country all over the world. Armed Forces Day won’t be a matter of parades and receptions for a good many of them. They will all be in line of duty and some of them may give their lives in that duty.”
Troy + Emmie have been on their mission to raise awareness for military families for just under a month now. We are so proud of his commitment to supporting those who give so much of their lives to support and protect all of us. He reminds us that whether we have family or friends in the military, we are provided many of our liberties because of our Armed Servicemen and women.
President Kennedy said it best,
“… Our Servicemen and women are serving throughout the world as guardians of peace–many of them away from their homes, their friends and their families. They are visible evidence of our determination to meet any threat to the peace with measured strength and high resolve. They are also evidence of a harsh but inescapable truth–that the survival of freedom requires great cost and commitment, and great personal sacrifice.”
This year’s theme is for Armed Forces Day is “United in Strength”. So whether on Armed Forces day or any other day of the year, remember to show your support and appreciation for our troops.
We at Dog is Good are showing our continued support of American military families by contributing all retail proceeds from the sales of our Never Walk Alone tees to Troy’s cause. Make sure to check out our website at DogisGood.com to get yours today!
