We love to visit with store owners who are experiencing tremendous success in their retail businesses. It’s even more exciting when the Dog is Good product line is a part their success.

During visits to Bethany Beach, Delaware, we always visit Yuppy Puppy. Set in a quaint beach town, this beautiful boutique is merchandised with impeccable taste and is a draw for all pet owners. When we visited this summer, owner Jamie Idzi explained how she expanded into lifestyle products for dog lovers.

Jamie originally worked at Yuppy Puppy for the previous owner.  The store opened in 2002 and Jamie purchased the business in 2006. Yuppy Puppy Dog Boutique product mix includes the latest in casual, trendy, and high fashion clothing for dogs (created by local and international designers), toys, classy collars and leashes, and lifestyle products for dog owners. They also provide custom clothing fittings and alterations for canine customers. At Yuppy Puppy, customers truly enjoy splurging on products that show their love for their FURBABY!

Jamie considered the Dog is Good product line for a while before committing to bring it in earlier this year. It had become apparent to her that DIG was focused on fashion and fun, and the design and messaging really attracted dog lovers. Jamie is pleased to say her customers agree, as evidenced by increased sales. According to Jamie, “Dog is Good products promote laughter and generate positive feelings and conversation. I appreciate the the diversity of the products Dog is Good offers as it has allowed me to strengthen the voice of my store. I am proud to wear DIG gear at the beach, on a night out on the town, and anywhere in between!”

DIG is the very first product line visible to customers when entering the store and the reaction is always the same – customers love Dog is Good! They find DIG products to be original, witty, and fun; they just can’t help but smile. As an entrepreneur, Jamie recognizes dog ownership is not just about the animal but also a lifestyle integrated with their pets. Jamie accounts for that when she creates displays and merchandises new products. Customers purchase Dog is Good products because they are not just dog owners, they live a dog lover lifestyle and feel the products allow them to portray their relationship with their pet.

At Yuppy Puppy, Jamie is most proud of her long-standing customer base and relationship with the community, and mingling with customers is her favorite part of every day. They have fostered her ability to grow the store as a brand – not just a place to house products. Active in the community, Jamie is the director of her town’s annual Halloween Festival: Wags, Witches & Warlocks. This event is for pets and kids and includes a parade and costume contest. It benefits the local SPCA chapter as well as local cat rescues. Yuppy Puppy also supports the Montgomery County Humane Society in Rockville, Maryland.

We were very impressed with how Jamie has merchandised Yuppy Puppy.  As it turns out, merchandising is a passion. And when the beach season is over and the store closes down for several months, Jamie consults with other businesses to improve their merchandising as well.
